When Should You Buy A New Watch?

Getting a new watch is always exciting, but is there a certain time when you should buy a new one?

Really you can buy a watch at any time. However, sometimes it is better to wait for the right moment to buy it. There are no real rules, it’s your watch collection and you can add to it when ever and how ever you see fit.

Buy A New Watch When You Can Afford It

Although there is no rules to when you buy your watch, you should make being able to afford it a rule.

We need to remember that it’s just a watch. I know they are super cool, but really on the grand scheme of things, watches are not important. If you can afford it, then certainly get it and enjoy the new watch.

However, if things are a bit tight, or you might even have to go in to debt to buy the watch, just take a step back and think about things.

If this is the case you need to be thinking about your priorities and where that money could be better spent. You need to remember that the watch will always be there. With a little patience you can save up and get it. Don’t cripple yourself financially over a watch.

Creating Memories Through Watches

This is one of the best reasons to buy a watch and is what makes watching collecting so rewarding.

One of the best times to buy a new watch is when you want to celebrate or remember a certain time.

It can be for anything, but big occasions like weddings, big birthdays, a birth of children and work related achievements are all very common reasons why people buy watches.

It is like you are setting this memory in stone… well, into a watch. Every time you look down at your wrist you will be brought back to the reason why you got the watch.

This can make your watch collections really personal and your relationship with the watches will be so much deeper and hold so much more value to you, than if you just buy them on a whim, or because you like the look of them.

Each watch will have a meaning and a story with a rich history, which makes them even more sentimentally valuable when they become heirlooms.

Buy Watches When There Is A Good Discount

This is pretty self explanatory. If the deal is looking too good, sometimes you just have to snap it up.

This is why patience is important in watch collecting. If you rush out and buy the watch the second you see it, you can easily get stung on the price.

Just sit back and examine the market and see what is happening and see if there are any upcoming sales in the watch shops. This little period of waiting could save you some money.

However, this can be a gamble at times as prices can start to rise, so you need to decide when it’s the best time to pull the trigger.

Buying Watches For Investments

Buying watches for an investment can be a bit of a gray area. Really you need to know what you are doing, or at least know someone who does.

Personally I don’t think you should do this, I think it’s better to just buy a watch and enjoy.

However, I would be stupid to avoid the fact that plenty of people buy watches for investments and I can’t exactly ignore that some watches skyrocket in price very quickly.

This can be very lucrative, but it’s maybe not as easy as it looks and can be risky. If you’ve done all your due diligence and you’ve taken advice from someone you can trust then you are going to be in a better position to buy the watch.

If You Don’t Own A Watch, Buy One

I have a feeling that if you are reading this you probably have a collection of watches, but if you have zero watches, well; I think it’s time you got one.

We all need at least one watch and it doesn’t need to be expensive. If you do not currently own a watch then you should get one.

I would see this as a necessity, so it’s a perfectly valid reason to buy a watch.

If You Have Sold A Watch, Buy A New One

If you are a watch collector you might have set yourself some rules, such as only allowing yourself to own a certain number of watches. There is nothing wrong with this, but it does mean that if you want a new watch, you will need to sell one that you currently own.

If you have a watch that isn’t really getting much love, you should sell it and then buy a new one to replace it.

If you are only going to have a limited number of watches, you should at least be absolutely obsessed with the small number that you do have.

Owning watches you are crazy about is going to really make you enjoy your collection and the hobby of watch collecting so much more.

If you are trying to down size your collection, then maybe buying more to replace them isn’t a great idea.

Buy A New Watch When Ever You Feel Like It

Just remember that it is perfectly fine to buy a watch at any point. Of course it is nice to get it for a sentimental reason or to get it at a discount, but if you want a watch, just get it.

So long as you can afford it and you like the watch, you should get it. It’s your collection and your rules, just do whatever you want and enjoy yourself.

Conclusion

As you can see there are plenty of reasons to buy a new watch and in fact you don’t even need a reason.

Just do whatever you feel is right for you. There is nothing stopping you from experimenting or changing your mind as you go along your watch collecting journey.

There are no rules, you should just buy a watch when you think it is the right time.
