The watch someone is wearing can pretty much tell you nothing about them. Everyone thinks it can tell you everything, which can be true at times, but not always.
There are two types of people in the world …Those that care about watches and those that do not.
Most people don’t care and they don’t notice other people’s watches. They only wear a watch to tell the time. They buy the one they like the look of and wear it. It doesn’t go any deeper than that.
This pretty much means that most people are not judging you based on your watch, and if you are trying to do the same, you are probably wasting your time, unless you meet someone who is actually into watches.
Watch collectors are far more likely to have some meaning behind the watch they have bought and they think about its purpose and reason for wearing it on that particular day.
Naming Brands
I could sit here and go through a list of brands, saying what someone is trying to say by owning that particular brand, but that is ridiculous.
It only shows you what I think of certain watches and who I think is buying them and for what reason. The reality is many different people own different watches for many different reasons. There is no one stereotype who buys a particular brand.
You should treat every person and the watch they own an individual bases. They own that watch for their own reason, not for a reason why I think they should.

Why Are You Wearing The Watch?
If a watch is going to say something about someone, you first need to know why they are wearing it. Without this context a watch is saying nothing.
Function
As I said at the start, most people don’t care about watches. They just want something that will tell the time and looks nice. Their decision is no more complex than that. They will weigh up the function, the look and then the cost and buy it. It might happen to be a really cool watch, or it may be a fashion watch. It doesn’t really matter.
All it says is that the person wants to know the time and they like they look of what they have bought.
A Gift
Watches are a very popular gift. You may see someone wearing something very cool, but really they have no idea about what they are wearing, It was a gift from someone special and that is the only reason they wear it.
If it is a particularly cool watch, this says more about the giver, than the wearer. Although, if they are wearing something awful, all it means it is who ever bought it thought it looked nice, and the person receiving it thought they were right and wore it.

A Show Off
I think we would be foolish to think people do not want to show off. There is a reason why you can get so many watches that are covered in diamonds and why the fake watch industry is so big. People want to be seen wearing certain watches, whether it is so they look wealthier, or just so they can say they have great taste, it doesn’t really matter, they just want to be seen.
People will buy fakes, knowing they are low quality and illegal, simply as they want to portrait they have something of value. They want to show it off, even if it is lies.
They May Be Into Watches
A small number or people you see might actually be into watches and might be some sort of collector. If you see them wearing a cool or expensive watch, all it shows you is that they appreciate watches.
Most watch collectors like a wide range of watches, ranging from the cheap and cheerful all the way up to the high end horology pieces. It just depends when you see and what watch they have chosen for the occasion.

Can Watches Show Your Economic Level
This is a pretty big misconception. While wearing an expensive watch can certainly show you have money, it doesn’t always mean you do.
Unfortunately we live in a world full of fakes. The counterfeit market is annoyingly rather big and Even more annoyingly some of them can look pretty accurate, especially from a distance.
This basically means if we see someone wearing a high end watch, we sadly need to questions its authenticity. Of course we are not going to ask, that is rude, but we are certainly going to question this in our mind and we may have doubts about their actual wealth and ability to own such a watch.
On the other hand, if we look at people who we know have wealth, they don’t often wear it on their wrist. If you look at Ryan Goslings watch collection he does have some nice high end Rolexes, but he also often wears the retro Casio A168. I also have this watch and although I have not seen Mr. Gosling’s finances, I think it’s very safe to assume he is doing very well for himself. This watch cost £16, but he stills wears it.
If you look at the wrist of one of the richest men in the world, Bill Gates, he also wears a very cheap watch. He can often be seen wearing a £50 Casio Duro. He also wears it on the supplied strap, which 99% of people who have this watch, swap out instantly.
This man can certainly afford anything he wants, especially a new strap, but he chooses this watch.
So basically, the watch you wear is really not an indicator of wealth. All it can do is show you have something that is expensive and even that can be questioned.
It Can Show Sophistication and Style
A watch is a piece of jewellery and arguably a fashion accessory. You will find that 99.99% of people who wear one, whether they are interested in watches or not, will wear one they like the look of.
This means that you can get an idea of someone’s style from the watch they wear.
It’s not about the value of the watch, or the brand, it’s simply about the look and how that can complement their style. It doesn’t matter if it’s a homage or a cheap brand, if it looks good on the person and goes will with their outfit, then you can judge how stylish they are.
Of course if they are pairing the right type of watch with the right type of outfit, we can tell how sophisticated they are. Not every know knows it’s much classier to wear a dress watch with formal attire. You might get a few people wearing a more sporty watch with their tuxedo, while that is not exactly bad, it just shows they maybe do not have a full understanding of watches, or maybe they just don’t really care.

Conclusion
Trying to know what a watch is saying about a person is really a waste of time. All you can really gather from it is that they like the watch enough to wear it.
Apart from that, a watch doesn’t really say much about you. You are far better off spending you time to look at how the person acts and listen to what they have to say. This will give you far more information about what they are like rather than just trying to judge them on their watch.
