What Are The Benefits Of A Leather Watch Strap?

Leather straps are pretty commonly seen on watches, but is there actually any benefit to having one of these on your wrist?

The short answer is yes, leather straps are great and can really offer you a lot. They are comfortable, look great and can really elevate your over all style.

Of course they are not perfect, but I think the benefits outweigh the negatives and it is certainly worth having a few of these straps in your collection, so let’s go through the benefits in a little more detail.

Leather Straps Look Good

A large part of wearing leather strap simply comes down to the fact that it looks good.

Leather straps work really well with some watches and they can also work with if the rest of your outfit, accenting the rest of your clothes. This is especially true if you pair a similar colour strap to your belt or even to the colour of your shoes. It can just nicely tie everything together and make you look more stylish.

Leather Straps Can Be Classy

There is also a general classiness to a leather strap. It is a well refined material that can just look sophisticated and elegant.

Of course you can get various leather straps and not all of them will have this look, and it also depends on what watch you pair the strap with it …but out of all the available straps you can buy, if you want something classy looking then leather is a good place to start.

Leather Straps Are Affordable

The price of a leather strap is usually quite reasonable. Of course this can swing in either direction and you can get some very cheap ones and some that are overpriced, but in general the prices are usually reasonable and more importantly, affordable.

A lot of the price does come down to quality, and even type of leather, but you should always be able to find a decent quality for a decent price.

Buying a leather strap is certainly going to be a lot cheaper than buying a new watch, so it can be a good way to change the look of your current watch at a pretty low cost.

Leather Straps Can Be Very Comfortable

Leather straps can also be very comfortable. However, this isn’t always right away. Some straps will need to be broken in and softened up.

All you need to do is just wear your strap and it will break in within a few weeks and you will find that it becomes very comfortable after a while.

They Mould To Your Wrist

A lot of the comfort comes from the fact that the strap basically moulds around your wrist.

The stiff leather will start to soften due to the shape of your wrist. Certain areas will be in more contact with your wrist than others and all those little movements you make through throughout the day will make the strap bend around your wrist and make it unique to you, which in turn makes it extremely comfortable.

You Can Have A Lot of Versatility With A Leather Strap

A lot of people write leather straps off as being plane or boring, which isn’t the case at all. You can actually get a lot of versatility with leather.

There is actually a wide range of colours, and while black and brown are the dominate straps on the market, you can actually find all sorts of other colours too.

You then have the different types of leather which all offer unique styles and looks and there can be quite the range. Each of these leathers can also be treated differently so the final strap can look and feel very different, one strap may be quite glossy, while others may be more suede.

This all allows for a lot of versatility between the straps you can buy.

You will also find that the one strap you own can be very versatile. You can put the same strap on a number of different watches and each time it will give a slightly different feel due to how it interacts with each of the different watches.

Leather Straps Are Easy To Size

When you have a leather strap on a watch, sizing it and generally wearing it is very straight forward.

You just need to put the watch on your wrist and use the buckle and hole that fits you best.  Generally there is no messing around trying to size up the watch to fit properly like you would have to do initially with a metal bracelet.

Unfortunately for a few people, they will find that there perfect fits falls in between two holes, so it will always be too tight, or too loose. This is annoying, but it happens sometimes.

Problems With Leather Straps

While leather straps have plenty of benefits, they are not perfect. The biggest issue with them is that they are not as robust as some other straps.

They can be hard wearing, but ultimately leather will wear out and this process will be sped up by water. Getting a leather strap wet is pretty much going to ruin it so they may not be ideal for a lot of people …although how wet are you getting on a daily basis? For a lot of people, water is not really an issue and you can wear a leather strap all day long.
