Frequently Asked Questions About – Casio Watches

Casio are very popular watches and this means I get asked a lot of different questions about them.

I have just complied all of these great questions here. They are not in any real order, but they are probably going to help a lot of people by just reading through them all, but if there is something you still want to ask, just ask.

Casio’s really are great watches and if you haven’t got one already, I would highly recommend them, you will not be disappointed with a watch from this amazing brand!

Are Casio Watches Water-Resistant?

Yes. I can’t think of any Casio models that do not have some form of water resistance.

You will find that different models have different ratings, where some watches will be more water resistant than others, including some that are ISO dive certified, meaning they can actually be used for diving, but in general, they all should have some form of water resistance.

(You can read more about – Are Casio Watches Suitable For Swimming Or Diving?)

Can I Wear My Casio Watch In The Shower?

As Casio’s are water resistant, so it does mean you can wear them in the shower.

However, I wouldn’t. Showers are hot and all the steam can eventually cause trouble. The watches can handle it, they are going to be okay if you do it …but I just have a feeling that doing it every day and constantly exposing them to that hot steam is going to speed up any problems that might occur.

I would say this will be more of an issue for the metal watches, as the hot temperature can make things expand and all these little daily expansions and contractions could weaken things over time.

I just have feeling that constantly showering will speed up any weakness and really it takes 2 seconds to take a watch on and off  …and it also lets you wash your wrist, which is always a good idea. So while you can wear it in the shower, I wouldn’t do it all the time.

Which Casio Watch Models Have Solar Power?

Not every Casio will have solar power, but you can find plenty that do. The majority are actually G-shocks and you can tell they have solar power as they will say “tough solar” somewhere on the dial.

You can actually find this on normal Casio’s too, but some models will just say “solar” and surprisingly you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a watch with this capability. You can get a watch for around £30 or £40 that has it, which is pretty impressive.

There are too many models to list, but if you just search Casio solar, you should find plenty of results come up.

Do Casio Watches Require Regular Battery Changes?

Yes but no. The batteries will need changed, but this not that regularly, maybe every couple of years but it will really depend on what batteries you are using.

A lot of models come with batteries that will last 10 years and this is even written on the dial.

Of course how often you are using the backlight is going to affect things, but I would say on average, you will not have to change the batteries very often.

(You can read more about – How Long Do Quartz Watches Last?)

What Is The Battery Life Of A Casio Watch?

This is an interesting question. The general life span of a Casio battery is really good; you should expect it to last a few years. Of course the battery life is going to be affected by how much you are using things …such as the light, but over all they do last a while.

However, some models actually will last 10 years. I am not sure if they are using different batteries, or the watch draws power from the battery differently, but either way the battery will last 10 years and they are so confident with this, they have written it on the dial.

You will also be able to replace the batteries when they do die, and so long as you get a decent quality battery it should last just as long as the original.

Can I Replace The Battery In My Casio Watch Myself?

Yes you can. You will need a small screw driver and clean area, but you can undo the screws and remove the case back and then replace the battery.

You will of course need to be careful with the rubber gasket and make sure do not damage it, as this will affect how water resistant things get, but so long as you are careful it will be fine.

How Accurate Are Casio Watches?

Casio are quartz watches, meaning they are pretty accurate.

If you read the manual, it will tell you the expected accuracy of that particular model, but it is common to see +/-30 seconds and month and some models may be slightly more accurate at +/-15 a month.

I’ve never seen a Casio be anywhere near this expected level of accuracy; normally they much more accurate and only a few seconds off per month, if at all.

Normally you set the time and that’s it, you don’t need to adjust it in the same way you have to constantly do it with a mechanical watch.

Some models will also have Multiband 6, which means they are automatically updated every night and these watches are pretty much perfectly accurate as they are getting their data from the atomic clock.

(You can read more about – What Is An Atomic Watch And Do You Need One?)

How Do I Set The Time And Date On A Casio Watch?

How exactly you set the time will depend on what model you have, while they can be quite similar, there are also some differences, so it is going to be easier to read the user manual.

Although, I have a feeling if you are reading this …you don’t have the manual, but that is okay. You can easily find it.

Casio have all the manuals online here –  https://www.casio.com/intl/support/watches/manual/

All you need to do is look at the back of your watch and you will see a number, inside a little square. It’s usually 4 digits and this is the module number …or I guess you could call it the movement, but I guess module makes more sense as it’s not mechanical.

Anyway, just type that number into the website and you will get the manual and you can read how to set the time and date and everything else.

Can I Adjust The Alarm Or Timer Settings On A Casio Watch?

See above, where I talk about finding the manual for your specific watch, which will tell you how to also set any alarms or timers.

How Do I Change The Time Zone On A Casio Watch?

This can be answered in two different ways, if you have a world timer function, you can change the time zone easily, you will need to do as I mentioned above …find the manual and read how to do it.

However, if your watch doesn’t have a world timer function, then you cannot change the time zone in the same way … but you can just change the actual time to be the same as whatever time zone you want. This is going to make more sense if you are now in that time zone, this isn’t something you just do to check the time somewhere else …if you want that ability, buy a world timer.

If you want to just change the time, to a different time zone, then see above on how to set the time.

Are Casio Watches Suitable For Outdoor Activities, Such As Hiking Or Camping?

Yes, Casio’s are extremely durable and reliable and are perfect for doing any sort of physical activity.

They are light weight and tough and are not going to just stop working for no reason, or need wound up, so the correct time will always be on display for you and this makes them the perfect type of watch to bring with you when doing something like hiking or camping.

Can I Wear A Casio Watch While Playing Sports?

Yes, you can wear a Casio while doing sports …well, some sorts are going to require you to take off your watch, but this is more for the safety of those you are playing with …not for the watches safety.

A Casio should be able to handle the sport you are doing, they are really tough and are perfect for doing anything physical.

Do Casio Watches Have A Stopwatch Feature?

This will depend on the model, but I would honestly say that the vast majority of Casio’s will have a stopwatch, especially if there is a digital screen.

This is a very common feature and you will even get it on the most basic models.

What Is The Average Price Range For Casio Watches?

This is a good question. I would honestly say that the bulk of Casio watches are sub $100, usually way below this in fact, but that doesn’t mean all of them, you can get ones that are over this, but I would say that you would struggle to find a Casio over $200.

Generally it is the G-shocks that will be at the higher end of the scale, usually starting around $100.

There are a few models of G-shocks that are a few hundred, and even one or two that are few 1000! but these are rare, really when you think of Casio you think extremely affordable.

Can I Wear My Casio Watch In Extreme Temperatures?

This is a good question. Extreme temperature will probably affect things but it is hard to find any information around this.

What exactly is an extreme temperature and more importantly, why are experiencing this? I would say for the vast majority of people, the temperature where you live is probably going to be fine for a Casio even if things get a little “extreme”.

I know some of you have cold winters or hot summers, but youer Casio should be fine. Realistically how long are you going to be outside in these conditions, if it is dangerous for you …you are going to avoid it, so your watch isn’t really going to get much exposure to these harsh conditions. I am sure short little blasts are not going to do it much harm.

I would only worry about this if you have to actually go somewhere really extreme, like the Antarctic, where you might be exposed to poor conditions for longer. You would probably want to find out what watch might be best to bring to somewhere like this before you go.

Are Casio Watches Made With Scratch-Resistant Materials?

Absolutely not.

Casio’s are either made out of a plastic resin or stainless steel and these both will scratch. The crystal will also be made out of plastic and it will scratch too.

This doesn’t mean they scratch easily though, I have really banged my Casio’s around and the scratching isn’t too bad, they can take a lot, but it is going to happen eventually.

They are tough, but they will scratch …but you won’t really notice it and it just builds character to the watch anyway, so its fine, don’t worry about it.

(You can read more about – What Do You Do If Your Watch Gets Scratched?)

Do All Casio Watches Have Backlighting For Easy Reading In The Dark?

I don’t want to say “all” Casio’s have backlights, but I am struggling to think of models that don’t

I imagine that there will be one or two models that have no backlight, maybe some of the analogue style watches …but in general, most Casio’s have a backlight, especially if it has a digital screen.

Is It Possible To Customize The Strap Or Band Of A Casio Watch?

This is an interesting question. What exactly is meant by customization …if you mean ask Casio to do something to the strap …no this won’t happen. The watches come as sold; there is no way to modify them.

However, you could paint the strap if you want, I am sure that would work. You can also change the strap and put something else on if you would rather do that instead.

There may also be 3rd party companies that will customise your strap, maybe they can print something on it, but you will not get this service directly from Casio.

Can I Replace Or Upgrade The Strap Or Band Of My Casio Watch?

Yes, you can swap the strap.

However, a lot of Casio’s actually just look best with the issued strap. They are often designed in a way that makes then look integrated and tapered so changing it to a different strap can look a little strange, but you can find some combinations that work.

Really it comes down to what watch you have and what strap you are trying to pair it with. Just play around with some things and you should find something that works well.

Can I Wear My Casio Watch In Saltwater Without Damaging It?

Yes, you can wear a Casio in saltwater and it should not damage it.

However, I would suggest that as soon as possible, wash off the seawater. Salt water can be bad for things over the long term, so I would try and rinse it off, especially if you are going to be exposing the watch to the sea regularly.

How Do I Clean And Maintain My Casio Watch?

Cleaning you Casio shouldn’t be too difficult, you should be able to just wipe any dirt off with a damp cloth, although you could use a bowl of hot soapy water if it was extremely bad and just give it a quick scrub with a cloth.

Casio’s are water resistant, so this shouldn’t be an issue, but I would just rinse off any soapy water after if you do this.

Are There Any Limited Edition Or Collectors’ Casio Watches?

Yes there are plenty of limited edition Casio’s, although you will really need to look towards G-shocks, as this is where they mostly happen.

These types of limited releases happen quite regularly where they design a watch in collaboration with someone else, or just release a watch in a limited colour. The G-shock website actually has a section on its website for this as there is always something new available that is only being released for a limited time.

Can I Adjust The Brightness Of The Display On A Casio Watch?

This is a …maybe, kinda, sort of answer.

You can’t really change the brightness, but you can change the duration of how long the light stays on for …on some models.

You will need to check if your model can do this but for some models you can either have the light on for 1 second or 3.

I am not sure if that counts as changing the brightness, but really that is all you can do.

Are Casio Watches Suitable For Individuals With Sensitive Skin Or Allergies?

I am not a skin doctor, so I can’t say for sure, however, I don’t see why a Casio strap would cause you any problems.

They are going to usually be made of a plastic, or stainless steel and like I said, I can’t see this causing any issues. Sometimes you can get a little sweaty under the plastic straps, so maybe this might irrigate some people skins.

Really you would need to ask your doctor to be sure, but I think most people will be okay.

Do Casio Watches Come With A Warranty?

Yes, when you buy a new Casio you should get a 2 year warranty, then of course if you are buying one second hand, this will not apply.

Casio are a big company, so you should have no issue trying use the warranty …although I have never heard of any one actually needing to use this, since they are so well made, but I guess it can happen.

How Long Does It Take To Charge A Casio Watch With Solar Power?

Really if you are just wearing the watch it will get more than enough light to be fully charged.

If you have just taken it out of the box, or you have had it in a drawer or something for a while, you may want to give it a bit of a charge up, which shouldn’t take too long. After about 3 hours it should be fully charged.

However, as I said, just wear it and it will go up naturally. Over the first few days I owned mine it slowly charged up (as I was inside) and after a few days it was fully charged and I’ve never seen it go down …and that is just from mostly natural inside light.

Are Casio Watches Suitable For Individuals With Larger Or Smaller Wrists?

Casio are really well designed and will work well on pretty much any one wrist, no matter what size they are.

Some models of Casio can be quite small, and others quite large, but this also doesn’t seem to matter, the watches will wear well on a number of different size wrists.

This has a lot to with the design and also the distance between the lugs, which is the distance between the top and bottom of the watch. This is usually a really nice size and just allows the watches to sit really well on most people’s wrists.

(You can read more about – How Do I Choose The Right Size Of Casio Watch For You Wrist?)

Can I Wear My Casio Watch While Playing Musical Instruments?

Yes, any watch, including a Casio should not interfere with your ability to play an instrument …if you find it does, then take it off.

Are Casio Watches Suitable For Individuals With Active Lifestyles?

Yes, Casio are perfect for this. They are light weight and durable, and can take a lot, they are perfect for those who are active.

If you are super active and things can get a little rough, then a G-shock is going to be perfect for you, they are pretty much indestructible and can take anything you throw at them, so they are perfect for those people who are very active.

Can I Wear My Casio Watch During Airport Security Checks?

I am pretty sure they make you take watches off at airport security.

I guess you can wear it and see what happens …but I am pretty sure they will make you take it off and put it through the machine …and they will probably decide you need to be asked 100 different questions for not taking it off in the first place.

It takes half a second to take it off and put in the trey with all your other stuff, so I’d just do that to avoid any drama.

Are There Any Casio Watches Specifically Designed For Women?

Yes, Casio have watches that are aimed at woman.

These watches do sometimes have the usual design patterns you might see on woman’s watches, such as white or pink, but not always, sometimes they just look the same as other models, they are just a little smaller

You can find these smaller sizes in both Casio’s and G-shocks, although I would say that any woman could wear both these and the slightly larger sizes, both work well so it just comes down to personal preference.

Are Casio Watches Suitable For Individuals With A Specific Profession Or Occupation?

This is a very vague question, but yes, Casio’s will be suitable for specific professions. If you are very active, then a Casio will be a great option …but even if you work in an office, they can be great.

Basically it doesn’t matter what you do, a Casio will be suitable for you.

Can I Wear My Casio Watch In Dusty Or Dirty Environments Without Damaging It?

This is a yes …but be careful. Dirt and dust will affect things over the long term, so if you are finding your watch is getting battered by dirt and dust, I would take the time to clean it up regularly, but in general, the watch should be okay in such conditions.

If you really want to be sure, get a G-shock, especially something like a Mudmaster which has extra protection to stop dust and dirt from finding its way into to the watch through the pushers.

(You can read more about – How Durable Are Casio Watches?)

How Can I Tell If A Casio Watch Is Genuine Or A Counterfeit?

This is tricky; sometimes it is obvious, other times they can be a little harder to spot, especially with the fake G-shocks.

When you have the genuine and counterfeit side by side, it’s clear as day which is which …but most people don’t have that, so they can be tricked.

Some models, such as the F91w have a cool little trick, where if you hold down the bottom right button, it says “casio” on the screen …but this isn’t for all models, so it’s not a foolproof way to test.

Really the best thing you can do is buy from an actual retailer, with the box and everything else then you know the watch is legit. The real issue is of course the second hand market, where you can’t always be sure about what you are buying.

I know a lot of you are thinking “why would anyone make a fake Casio, they are so cheap” …correct, that’s what I think, but it happens, so someone is clearly able to make money somehow on these fakes watches.

I would just be careful shopping second hand, as annoyingly there is no foolproof way to be sure, ideally you want to compare your watch to another, or at least have good pictures to compare with, then you can start to hopefully spot any obvious differences that will give it away as a fake.

I think most watches out there will be genuine, but it can happen and as with anything …if the price looks too good to be true …it’s probably a fake.

Conclusion

Hopefully that clears up any questions you had around Casio and you feel more comfortable going out and buying one. They really are worth it, you certainly need to own one, if not a few.

If you have any other questions on Casio, just ask and I will try and answer it and add it to the list.
