Can Pagani Design Watches Be Considered As A Good Alternative To Luxury Brands?

Pagani Design is a Chinese based company that sells watches on Aliexpress and people often look to them to buy afford watches.

Their designs are very similar to some well know luxury brands, which is what often leads people to ask if they can make a good alternative to an actual luxury brand, especially considering the price difference.

I think this a difficult question to answer as it really is like comparing apples to oranges, but I will go through things that can help you see the difference between the two and then you can decide if a Pagani would make good alternative or not.

Pagani Design Watches Are Not Luxury

I think it is important to establish the fact that Pagani Design watches …are not luxury watches.

They are extremely affordable and often their finishing and movements reflect this. This doesn’t mean they are bad …it just means they are not luxury.

This can make the whole question around considering them as a good alternative, a tricky one to answer. It can be hard to compare the two as they are a different ends of the spectrum.

When you place a luxury watch next to a Pagani the difference will become obvious and you will see why asking if it is a good alternative is an unfair question to ask.

Pagani Design Watches Are Homages of Luxury Watches

If Pagani designs watches are not luxury, then what are they? Well the simple answer is that they are homages of luxury watches.

I think this is where the confusion can lie and why people might ask if you should have one or the other. The reality is that Pagani make watches that have the look and feel of luxury watches, while not actually being luxury.

This is a touchy subject, as there can be quite a few different levels of homaging, and Pagani sits very close to the “copying” end of the scale.

Ideally a homage should just take inspiration from another watch. It should be inspired by it and you can tell it has had some influence through the design choices. I think most people are okay with this as realistically there are only so many configuring of a watch you can really design, so eventually some watches will inevitably  have designs that  look similar to other watches.

However, as I already said, Pagani take this to the extreme and basically copy the designs of luxury watches and change just enough to make them different enough that it’s legal.

This is exactly why some people think “why pay $10k for a watch when I can pay $100 that looks nearly exactly the same” and why we have questions like if they can be a good alternative or not.

It is also why some people swing in the total opposite direction and just accuse them of being pretty much replicas and changing the name on the dial may make it legal, but it’s still not very ethical.

Whatever what you look at it, you can’t really compare a luxury watch to a watch that is trying to look like it, it just doesn’t make sense.

A Pagani Design Watch Will Cost You A Lot Less Than A Luxury Watch

When we look at prices, this is really the only area where you may want to consider a Pagani Design over a luxury watch.

The price of a Pagani is going to be extremely low, usually around $100 which is probably about 10 times cheaper than an entry level luxury watch, which is going to cost at least $1000 …usually much more than this.

Of course this price is so low because the watches are not actually luxury, so it should come as no surprise.

However, this is exactly why these homage watches exist. Their whole purpose is to fill a whole in the market. People want luxury, but they can’t afford it.

The low price of homage’s are more attainable for most people, and while they are not luxury, they satisfy most people who can’t actually afford luxury.   

You Get The Quality You Pay For With Pagani Design

When it comes to Pagani, you do get what you pay for, although you could argue you actually get more than you might expect.

You pay low prices and get low quality with Pagani …well that is unfair, the quality can be fine, and the specs on paper are certainly decent, but really when you compare one of these watches next to the watch they are taking “inspiration” from, it is clear why one costs $10k and one costs $100.

That doesn’t mean that Pagani watches are bad, it’s just that luxury watches are just leagues above them in every aspect. It is this increase in quality, reliability, and even brand recognition that you are paying the premium price for when it comes to luxury watches.   

Every aspect for the luxury watch is going to outclass the Pagani. The materials used, the construction, the finishing and attention to all the little details will be there with a luxury watch. Looking through a loupe will really show you the difference in quality, but you will not even need this, the naked eye should be good enough to see the difference in quality, let alone how it actually just feels in your hand. 

A luxury watch is also going to be more reliable and more accurate and while Pagani have decent movements (from Seiko) a luxury watch is just going to be of a higher standard no matter how you try and measure it.

I think this aspect alone is why we can’t fairly compare the two and why it makes no sense to suggest one is a better alternative than the other. The quality you get with a luxury watch is just not comparable to a Pagani watch.

Homages Can Give You The Feel For Luxury

While homage watches are not luxury, you can kind of get the feel of what it might be like, and this is what makes them so popular, but also so hated.

The general vibe is that you are wearing something that is pretending to be a little better than it actually is. People either like this, or hate it. 

Some people want to act like they have an expensive watch, while not actually having to spend a lot of money, and others think that this is “cheating” or faking it in some way and to be honest I can see both sides of the argument very clearly.

Pagani use a lot of Seiko movements, and while Seiko is not a luxury brand, they are a very well respected brand and you have to ask why would you not just get one of their watches, why do you need a watch that is pretending to be luxury?

Are Pagani Design Watches A Good Alternative To Luxury Watches?

So, really, does a Pagani Design watch make a good alternative to a luxury watch….I honestly don’t think so.

They are just too far apart. The only similarity is the look and I think watch collectors seek a lot more than just “the look” when comes to owning a watch.

I think Pagani Design are great and I think they have their place in the market, but the reality is they are not selling luxury watches and if I wanted one, I would just get a luxury watch. If I wanted a decent quality, low cost watch, I would go for a Pagani.

Although it is not the only option, there are plenty of other very affordable watches that are of a decent quality ….and have more of an original design. Just think of Casio, or even Seiko, which power most Pangani’s.  I think a better question to ask would be “Is a Pagani a good alternative to a Casio” A question like this would more a fair comparison.  

However, whether you decide to go for a Pagani or a luxury watch really comes down to you and what you are comfortable paying for and wearing. I really think the two can’t be compared, but there is nothing stopping you from having either or both if you really want.

So hopefully now you can see it doesn’t make sense to compare a Pagani to a luxury watch.

Of course they may look similar, but that is about where the comparison ends, I don’t think they can be bought as alternative, as looks alone are not enough when it comes to watches, the quality throughout the rest of the watch will not be there and if this is something you are looking for, then you need to buy a luxury watch.
